About the Author

Guy Krige is an Executive Risk Consultant at ESCROWSURE and a seasoned solicitor with over three decades legal experience. For more than 10 years, he has played a pivotal role at ESCROWSURE, a company at the forefront of software escrow services in South Africa. His journey into the world of software escrow began through a friend’s introduction. Despite not having heard of the industry before, Guy was quickly drawn in by the opportunity to apply his legal expertise in a highly specialised and impactful niche—advising major corporations on managing the risks posed by third-party software dependencies.

At ESCROWSURE, Guy consults with clients across sectors—financial services, healthcare, government, and more—on identifying and mitigating operational risks linked to critical software systems. He is instrumental in designing legal agreements that form the backbone of software escrow arrangements, ensuring that organisations are protected against vendor failure, insolvency, or service disruptions. With a solicitor’s precision and a strategist’s foresight, he works to understand each client’s unique IT environment and craft bespoke escrow solutions that ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance.

Guy’s daily work involves listening intently to clients’ concerns, interrogating risk exposures, and building tailored responses that align with IT governance frameworks and industry standards. He thrives on the variety and complexity of his work, finding meaning in each challenge. “No two risk environments are the same,” he notes. “That’s what makes this work so engaging.”

One of his most significant projects involved securing the administrative software for an entire provincial hospital system. The system was mission-critical to public healthcare operations, and Guy played a central role in engineering the escrow strategy that would protect thousands of patients in the event of software vendor disruption. This project, among others, reflects his broader mission: to raise awareness within South Africa’s corporate leadership about the growing risks of software dependency—and the simple, effective solutions that escrow offers.

Personally, Guy is driven by a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. He’s deeply interested in how people and systems operate, and he constantly seeks to refine both. His fascination with macroeconomics and neurobiology fuels his intellectual curiosity, and when he’s not consulting or studying, he’s often found cycling—another outlet for his focus and drive. Ultimately, Guy sees his role not just as providing legal advice, but as equipping businesses with the tools and strategies they need to thrive in an uncertain digital landscape. For him, software escrow isn’t just about risk—it’s about resilience, foresight, and empowering organisations to operate with confidence, no matter what challenges arise.
